Homemade Applesauce
Ingredients
- 6 Organic Apples
- 1.5 cups Water
- 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
- Honey optional
- Fresh lemon/lime juice optional
Instructions
- Fill bottom of a steam pot with about 1.5 cups of water. Place on stove, turn to medium high heat and cover pot.
- Wash apples and remove stems.
- Cut in quarters lengthwise, and then in halves.
- Place in steamer basket and steam for about 10 minutes until apples soften.
- Place steamed apples in blender with a little bit of the water used for steaming (about ½ cup).
- Blend well, adding cinnamon and honey to taste.
- Pour into storage containers and store in refrigerator. Lasts about 1-2 weeks.
- Optional, add 1/2 tsp of freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice.
- Also optional, sprinkle some ground ginger, ground cloves, and/or turmeric into the mix.
Notes
This recipe is a staple in my home. You might say to yourself, "But it's so much easier to buy packaged applesauce." My kids love this!
