Homemade Applesauce

Ingredients
  

  • 6 Organic Apples
  • 1.5 cups Water
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • Honey optional
  • Fresh lemon/lime juice optional

Instructions
 

  • Fill bottom of a steam pot with about 1.5 cups of water. Place on stove, turn to medium high heat and cover pot.
  • Wash apples and remove stems.
  • Cut in quarters lengthwise, and then in halves.
  • Place in steamer basket and steam for about 10 minutes until apples soften.
  • Place steamed apples in blender with a little bit of the water used for steaming (about ½ cup).
  • Blend well, adding cinnamon and honey to taste.
  • Pour into storage containers and store in refrigerator. Lasts about 1-2 weeks.
  • Optional, add 1/2 tsp of freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice.
  • Also optional, sprinkle some ground ginger, ground cloves, and/or turmeric into the mix.

This recipe is a staple in my home. You might say to yourself, "But it's so much easier to buy packaged applesauce." My kids love this!
