Homemade Applesauce

Ingredients
  • 6 Organic Apples
  • 1.5cups Water
  • 1tsp Ground cinnamon
  • Honey (optional)
  • Fresh lemon/lime juice (optional)
Instructions
  1. Fill bottom of a steam pot with about 1.5 cups of water. Place on stove, turn to medium high heat and cover pot.
  2. Wash apples and remove stems.
  3. Cut in quarters lengthwise, and then in halves.
  4. Place in steamer basket and steam for about 10 minutes until apples soften.
  5. Place steamed apples in blender with a little bit of the water used for steaming (about ½ cup). Blend well, adding cinnamon and honey to taste. Optional, add 1/2 tsp of freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice. Also optional, sprinkle some ground ginger, ground cloves, and/or turmeric into the mix.
  6. Pour into storage containers and store in refrigerator. Lasts about 1-2 weeks.

This recipe is a staple in my home. You might say to yourself, “But it’s so much easier to buy packaged applesauce.” My kids love this!
